About Sargawatt

Our mission: to mass harvest sargassum with a view to valorization

Sargawatt was born in Martinique to respond to a Caribbean challenge: collecting sargassum in volume, at the right cost and while respecting ecosystems, in order to link coastal protection and industrial development.

Our story

Sargawatt was born from a field observation

Sargawatt was born in Martinique from the observation that sargassum, perceived as a coastal scourge, can become a industrial resource if they are collected in volume, at the right cost and while respecting ecosystems.

Founded and chaired by Matthieu Bergot, in association with Bruno Sainte-Rose on R&D work initiated at the end of 2022, the company is part of a bluetech trajectory serving the Caribbean.

Our mission

Guarantee those involved in sargassum processing reliable access to the raw material, while equipping hotels, communities and coastal operators with a collection system capable of drastically reducing strandings and associated costs.

Our vision

In 5 years, structure a decentralized, mutualizable and economically sustainable collection infrastructure in the Caribbean basin, capable of linking coastal protection, industrial development and local job creation.

The founding team

A team between strategy, innovation and modeling

Matthieu Bergot

CEO

An engineer graduated from École Polytechnique and Télécom Paris, Matthieu Bergot has more than 15 years of experience in telecommunications, innovation consulting and strategy. After several engagements in the Caribbean and Guyana and the creation of Tabga, a decarbonization and sustainability strategy consultancy, he founded Sargawatt and has chaired it since 2024.

Bruno Sainte-Rose

Co-founder, PhD, CTO

Centrale Paris engineer and ONERA doctor, Bruno Sainte-Rose brings to Sargawatt his expertise in modeling, digital simulation and environmental systems. Having worked with Lemma and The Ocean Cleanup, he has technical expertise directly linked to the issues of drift, collection and management of sargassum.

Territorial anchoring

A Martinican anchorage at the heart of the sargassum problem

Sargawatt is based in Fort-de-France, in Martinique, and works with the ecosystem engaged in the protection of coastlines and the valorization of sargassum on a Caribbean scale.

Being established in Martinique allows Sargawatt to remain in direct contact with impacted areas, communities, private operators, fishermen, laboratories and industrial partners mobilized around the sargassum sector.

It also means taking part in legitimate economic development: transforming a Caribbean problem into locally anchored industrial sector, with jobs, regional partnerships and expertise exportable internationally.
